Botanical Name: Juniperus virginiana


A firm stable softwood, the timber of this red cedar is highly prized for its beautiful, warm, cheap, rich, red color and its most distinctive aromatic perfume. Its natural oils contain the secret of its success. The knottier the wood the better because the knots indicate the high content of the aromatic oils.

Aromatic red cedar was one of the very first woods to be exported out of America to Europe. Europe has no equivalent indigenous wood.
