HICKORY

Botanical Name: Carya ovata

Shag bark hickory is a true native American hardwood found nowhere else. A very hard wood, hickory is exceptionally tough, strong and resilient. It shrinks considerably in drying but once stable, is a very useful, reliable wood.

Did You Know?
Hickory was once considered the most efficient heating fuel in the country. It still makes the best hardwood charcoal. Heat produced from one cord of hickory is equal to the heat from one ton of coal.
