POPLAR

Botanical Name: Liriodendron tuliyifera

Poplar trees have been known to reach 190 feet in height. By far the tallest species in the eastern forest, covered with tulip-shaped yellow flowers every spring.

Did You Know?
An abundant and stable wood, poplar is used for boatbuilding and recently in the manufacturing of plywood. Due to its affordability it is used in a multitude of inexpensive wood products such as toys, broom handles, boxes, crates, baskets, food containers and Popsicle sticks.

Yellow poplar grows quickly into a tall straight tree. Because of its fast maturity the lumber from poplar is lightweight and soft for a hardwood, but is strong, durable and seasons well resisting warpage. Once it is straight grained and evenly textured, it is rewarding to work with. The wood stains well and can be made to resemble walnut or maple.
